i followed the ideas at http://www.maynidea.com/squidguard/faq-plus.html
and still get the urllist empty problem.

it says that the 2.X and 3.X versions of the Berkely DB package can work
simultaneously on a system. can someone explain how i can tell which one
squidguard is using? also would it be possible to have the error message
say something like: "suspect wrong version of DB package" rather than
simply urllist empty? staring at the conf and urllists and ownerships for
a few hours then finding out that the web site is wrong is less effective
than searching for the right DB package :)

i'd be glad to help.

also, i finally just gave up on trying to make the DB versions of the lists
work. i just deleted them. that would also be a more effective fail-over
strategy than going into panic mode. when i discovered that i had to
explain to the tech coordinator that the multi-hour experience in
frustration i was having was because i was trying to improve the start-up
performance. she said: 'what start-up performance?'

thanks,
