HI,

No you have misunderstood myprobelm is solved after I created .db files.

Why would /var partition gets filled up with plain text files ?

I have my database files under /usr/local/squidGuard/db/blacklists/.....So I have already moved

the dbhome. But this problem was not related to insufficent disk space. As I mentioned earlier also when this probelm occurs "du /var" would show 3 M occupied whereas "df /var" would show more than 32 MB( with 9 squidGuard processes running). 32 MB is the total soze of /var partition.

Is the statement correct? Or did you mean to say that after you created the .db files the problem started occurring? I can understand why the problem might start after creating the .db files.

A recent blacklist file (tar.gz) was .7 Mb. Expanded, it becomes 2.7 Mb. (There's one tip - if it is still around you can delete the tar.gz file after installing the blacklists.)

The 2.7 Mb jumps to about 9 Mb when you create the .db files

I don't see why you couldn't change your dbhome statement and move your blacklists out to a partition with more room.

I think I got the solution for not letting /var partition go full. I found that when I upgrade the database I bring

blacklist.tar.gz. This does not contain .db files in the category directories. They just contain plain files.

After I created .db files using "squidGuard -C all" command, problem stopped occuring.

Can anybody tell me the reason for this. I am curious to know this.

Well if you can point your log files or data files to /var/somedir you can make a symlink to /usr somewhere!&

There are ways of expanding the size using a logical volume manager, not sure if vinum(freebsd) will let you do this.

I couldn't believe you have made a /var  32 Mg partition.  I would never think on less than 2 Gigabytes for such important directory.
