Barely Human DanceTheatre presents the First Annual Mutual Benefit
"Stuck in a hole...in the fog...in the middle of the night...with an owl!"
February 23rd, 2002, 7pm
at
the Melting Point Gallery, 1340 Bryant Street in San Francisco, near
Division Street.
Sponsored by Rosenblum Vineyards, this Mutual Benefit will offer a fully
hosted wine bar with sumptuous snacks to compliment the incredibly full
evening's entertainment.
Amazing Butoh performances by Tanya Calamoneri, Bob Webb and John Doyle!!!
Sculptures by Nils Kreuger, Tammy Bickel, Ty Tripoli and other Melting
Point artists will grace the art gallery space and sculpture garden.
Also part of the evening will be an excerpt from Barely Human
DanceTheatre's "TenderSwitch", choreographed by artistic director Dawn
McMahan with dancers Lisa Micheli and Jennifer Huang, in costumes created
with Cool Neon.The Emergency String Quartet will serenade us all.
The second half of the evening will include raucous music
performances by Majesty's Monkey, Ramona the Pest, Mumble and Peg as well
as the always suprising Moe!Staiano, experimental percussionist and recent
recipient of a Good Vibrations! grant.
Throughout the evening the audience may also partake in a
site-specific commode installation by the infamous OAC as well as their
curiously tantalizing petting zoo.
This benefit is to raise money for Read Alive!, an arts-based literacy
project now in development in conjunction with the Ravenswood City School
District in East Palo Alto.
Already a year in the making, this project survives wholly on donated funds
so as to be in full support of this financially struggling school district.
The funds will also go towards Barely Human DanceTheatre's next
production, TenderSwitch, March 28-30 at CellSpace. This dance piece, with
costumes created by Cool Neon, live experimental music by some of the bay
areas most talented musicians, also includes a small choir of children who
are currently collaboratively creating a soundscape with the music
director, Moe!Staiano at the Park Day School in Oakland.
