Yugen Presents: IMPROVISATION.. an evening of Butoh performance Monday & Tuesday, March 4th & 5th 8:00 PM $10.00-%15.00 Sliding Scale ----> Event Description <----------------------------------------------- WHO: Kinji Hayashi, Shinichi Momo Koga, and Ledoh WHAT: IMPROVISATION: An evening of Butoh Performances San Francisco based Butoh dancers Kinji Hayashi, Shinichi Momo Koga, and Ledoh dedicate an evening to solo and group Butoh improvisations. Butoh originated in Japan in the late 1950's. As a young art form, constantly re- identifying itself Butoh is malliable and open to individual interpretation. Improvisation will explore spatial and emotional boundaries and create image- based environments. Shinichi Momo Koga is the Artistic Director of the East Bay based sonic Butoh company Inkboat. Kinji Hayashi is one of Inkboat's principal dancers and directs his own company Human Sewing Machine. Ledoh is the Artistic Director of the San Francisco based company Salt Farm. Each of these artists has at one time studied and performed with Berkeley based Butoh Masters Koichi and Hiroko Tamano and their company Harupin - Ha. Shinichi Momo Koga is a body theatre alchemist. He has produced solo and group works since 1988. Shinichi's work is influenced by Tadashi Suzuki's Theater Method, filmmaking and photography. Kinji Hayashi has worked extensively in the Bay Area and nationally. Kinji and Human Sewing machine will perform at the San Francisco Butoh festival this August at Theatre Artaud. Ledoh was born in Burma to the Karen tribe. He has worked in Thailand with Butoh Master Katsura Kan.
