Cozy Friday, December 13th 7 - 9 pm free ----> Event Description <----------------------------------------------- Spanganga is pleased to announce a group show featuring the work of Heather Johnson, Marina Vendrell, Erik Mortensen and Laura Splan. �Cozy� features work created from common domestic materials that are modified from their intended use as vehicles of comfort. Heather Johnson's installation, "Once Upon [a] Blotted-Out Time", examines disconnections between prefabricated landscapes and the people inhabiting them. Her wall-sized map connects spare roadside towns to the sprawling metropolis. Marina Vendrell's sculptures made from old toys and animal furs investigate feelings of comfort and discomfort, luxury and necessity. Erik Mortensen's sewn sculpture, "Untitled (social wear)", presents an outerwear wardrobe with pieces for every occasion. Laura Splan's latch hook sculptures subvert the materials' traditional use in depicting idealized and romanticized images from domesticity and nature.
