gestalt collective is a loose group of artists focused on the process of collaborative art-making. Since its inception in 2002, the group has worked collaboratively on projects in san francisco. The Wall installation is a collaborative experience focused on the process of both artistic creation and the interplay of styles within the group. Work within a group is by nature an organic process, each artist starting with a sketch and idea of their individual contribution to the total whole, but as a process, the action of working ultimately dictates the final result. Each individual begins to work around and through each other, communication and response to the direct moment of the creative experience guides the outcome. As such, the starting point and the completed whole grow into a greater experience for both the artists and the viewer. In conjunction with the project, a feature length DVD will be released. The DVD will include time-lapse video of the full installation, individual artist interviews and footage of the opening reception. The DVD will be released at the closing party, May 22, 2004. Kat5 will perform live for the event.
