Lit at The Canvas A celebration of San Francisco literature
This is a series of theme literary events in the Sunset district of San Francisco. The idea is simple-a reading series with a twist; something that you may not see at a normal reading.
Wondering where your Jetson future is? Find yourself asking Where is my jetpack? Or just curious about what may come. Then list to our writer hypothosis and fictionalize about the future.
Featured writers:
Alvin Orloff started writing in 1977 as a lyricist for The Blowdryers, a San Francisco punk band. After dabbling in underground theater, performance art, niteclub DJing, and 'zine writing, he co-authored the transsexual showbiz memoir, The Unsinkable Bambi Lake (Manic D Press 1996). In 2000, his first novel, I Married an Earthling (Manic D Press), was deemed "Hilarious" by the S.F. Chronicle while Publishers Weekly called it, "Utterly original" and "A delight." His new novel Gutter Boys will be coming out this June. Orloff lives in The Mission and works in deliciously musty used bookstore.
M.I. Blue is responsible for the informational pamphlet: HOW TO BLOW UP A CHURCH and co-producer of San Francisco's yearly DadaFest (look for it in July!)...most recently translated into japanese and seen participating in his own production of a Twilight Zone episode, m.i.blue can also make monkey and elephant noises. Annalee Newitz writes a syndicated newsweekly column called Techsploitation about the social impact of science and technology. Her work has also appeared in Wired, Salon, and the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and she does irregular commentaries for California Connected on KQED.
And maybe if you are good boys and girls live robots from the San Francisco Robot Society of America
The mad geniuses behind it all:
MC by Michael Vavricek, a long-time test pilot of social experiments
for self-awareness. As a porn clown and psychotic psychotherapist he
implements expansion through the orchestration of opportunities for phobias
and philias to clash. As an artist of audio, email and actual interaction,
he facilitates a state of inquiry and perspective in those willing to play
his games. He glutinous prostitution of sesquipedalians is simply a
smokescreen to prevent him being discovered as an intellectual imposter. To
find out more about his most recent projects - FIVErite Day, Thunk Tank and
protoCALL audio magazine - email him at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Melinda Adams (producer) - is a confused DIY renaissance woman, has been an event planner, stage tech, writer, filmmaker, and actress. She is a resident of the Sunset and just sick of having to get on a bus to see a great show. More information at www.lilycat.com
