QUILLS
BERKELEY� Nothing can stop the Marquis de Sade, locked away in the Charenton lunatic asylum because of his licentious habits and scandalous literary works. He continues to write against all odds. Deprived of his pen, paper and ink, De Sade resorts to more desperate stratagems with dreadful and peculiar results. Doug Wright wields his own lacerating pen to cackle fiendishly at the self-righteous gatekeepers of morality. By turns witty, ironic, shocking and lyrical, QUILLS is feverishly Grand Guignol, a highly theatrical exploration of love and art and the responsibility of self-expression. Quills previews June 5 & 6, Opens June 7 and runs Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm until July 3rd, at the Julia Morgan Theatre, 2640 College Avenue in Berkeley. The Julia Morgan Theatre and Center for the Arts are located at 2640 College Ave., Berkeley, at the corner of College and Derby Streets. The U.C. Berkeley campus is 5 blocks to the north.
By Bus
The AC Transit 51 line passes right by the Theatre on College Avenue.
By BART
The Rockridge and Berkeley stations are nearly equidistant from the Theatre, about 2 miles each. From Rockridge Bart, head north on College until you see the Theatre on your left, or take the 51 bus. From Berkeley Bart, go east to Oxford St., turn right on Oxford, left on Bancroft, right on College, or catch the 51 bus on the west side of Shattuck Ave., the street on which the Bart station is located.
By Car
From the South
Get on 80 North/East towards Sacramento. Get off at Ashby. Go East (toward the hills) on Ashby about 3 miles. Turn left on College Ave. Go about 1/2 mile, the Theatre will be on your left just after Derby St.
From the North
Get on 80 South/West towards San Francisco. Get off at Ashby. Go East (toward the hills) on Ashby about 3 miles. Turn left on College Ave. Go about 1/2 mile, the Theatre will be on your left just after Derby St.
From the East
Take 24 West toward San Francisco. Right after the Caldecott Tunnel, take 13 (Tunnel Road) towards Berkeley. Tunnel turns into Ashby. Turn right on College Ave. Go about 1/2 mile, the Theatre will be on your left just after Derby St.
From the West (San Francisco)
Take the Bay Bridge toward Oakland. Stay to the left after leaving the bridge. Get on 80 towards Berkeley/Sacramento. As soon as you're able get over to the right and get off on Ashby. Go East (toward the hills) on Ashby about 3 miles. Turn left on College Ave. Go about 1/2 mile, the Theatre will be on your left just after Derby St.
