----/ The Squid List /-------------------------------------------------- The Knockout Uke-Out
Friday, October 14th, 2005 9:00 pm $5 ----/ Event Description /----------------------------------------------- Venture down to the nether regions of Mission Street for 4 Rounds of nonstop Ukulele action! The Contenders: Tippy Canoe & the Paddlemen featuring The SWEATers: Play popular music or what the kids call "pop". Songbird and uke-slinger, Tippy Canoe, is on a mission to bring sincere uplift in a severely down- slanted era. The Paddlemen use their skill with the drum kit, upright bass, violin, mandolin and guitar to conjure up a tight-knit mesh of rhythm and melody. This evening marks the debut appearance of the foxy fuzzy doo-wop sensations The SWEATers...you've never seen vocals so tight! http://www.tippycanoe.net The Dimestore Dandy: Having mastered a full repertoire of cheerful tunes, Rick Quisol a.k.a. The Dimestore Dandy of The Frisky Frolics (vocals, kazoo and ukulele) offers a unique opportunity to travel back to an era when the harsh realities of the Depression were temporarily softened by snappy tunes, droll lyrics and the occasional ferocious kazoo solo. http://www.angelfire.com/jazz/friskyfrolics The Paper Dolls: Velveeta voiced ukulele vixens, The Paper Dolls, will strut, strum and plunk their way into that place in your heart you thought had died when Pee Wee Herman fell from grace. The hot three-part harmonies delight your ears while their charming frames wear a fashionable feast for your eyes. Cracker Jack Salteen: Once had a very promising career as a hot dog vendor at Coney Island, but he gave it all up to sail the Seven Seas in search of the perfect stale beer. He picked up the ukulele one fateful night in New Caledonia because it was a much better weapon than a carton of milk, but soon became intoxicated by it's charming sounds. After a brief stay in an de-intoxication clinic he returned home to sing of the places he had seen, the people he had met, and the things he had stolen. Salteen is available to entertain at weddings, bar mitzvahs and birthdays. Please consult with his parole officer first. ----/ Venue Info /------------------------------------------------------ The Knockout (formerly The Odeon Bar) 3223 Mission Street (between Fair & 29th) San Francisco 415-550-6994 http://www.theknockoutsf.com http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=3223+Mission+STreet&csz=San +Francisco%2C+CA&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= ----/ Additional Info /------------------------------------------------- [EMAIL PROTECTED] 415-515-5991 http://www.tippycanoe.net ----/ The Squid List Admin /--------------------------------------------- The Squid List, a tentacle of Laughing Squid http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/ subscribe, unsubscribe, change your email address or change your subscription options: http://lists.laughingsquid.org/mailman/listinfo/squidlist/ Frequently Asked Questions & Submission Guidelines Squid List FAQ: http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/faq.html The Squid List Online Calendar: http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/calendar/ The Squid List RSS Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/squidlist ----/ Laughing Squid /-------------------------------------------------- Laughing Squid http://laughingsquid.com underground art and culture from San Francisco and beyond Laughing Squid Web Hosting http://laughingsquid.net friendly, dependable and secure web hosting services for artists, individuals, bloggers, non-profits and small businesses Copyright (c) 2005 Laughing Squid.
