Tuesday, October 18 - 7:00 pm 7:00 pm $5 ----/ Event Description /----------------------------------------------- Author Caryl Phillips, called "one of the literary giants of our times" by The New York Times, reads from his searing new novel Dancing in the Dark at a special celebration of the legendary black vaudevillian Bert Williams. Phillips's novel reimagines the remarkable, tragic, little-known life of Williams, the first black entertainer in the United States to reach the highest levels of fame and fortune. The event will also include a discussion of Williams' life and work, a screening of a Williams film clip, excerpts from some of his most notable recordings, and a display of artifacts related to his work.
