After a series of sold-out productions of classical plays in Santa Cruz, The Quixote Project is teaming up with San Francisco's premiere cabaret troupe, Rococo Risqué, to present the West Coast Premiere of Nobel Prize winner Seamus Heaney's The Burial at Thebes, opening on January 13th at the Brava Theater in San Francisco. While in Santa Cruz the Quixote Project quickly earned a reputation for producing entertaining work that explores the relevance of classical drama through inventive, contemporary staging. Rococo Risqué, named SF Weekly's 2004 pick for Best Theater ensemble, has wowed San Francisco audiences with its outlandish cabarets that combine the theatrical styles of vaudeville, burlesque, and commedia dell'arte. The marriage of these two companies of young theater artists (both founded by UC Santa Cruz alumni) promises an exciting, socially- relevant re-imagining of the classic tale of Antigone, rich with live music, song, dance, and spectacle for the San Francisco community.
