This second installment will feature early cowboy songs with some ace-high yodeling and more! TOSHIO HIRANO was born in Tokyo in the 1950's. Postwar Japan. He embraced everything American, including American popular music. As a teenager he became interested in bluegrass and country music . One of his first loves was the great John Duffy and The Country Gentleman. He later became inspired by the Mississippi legend, Jimmie Rodgers. Toshio learned to play banjo, guitar and mandolin and started a family band with his brother and cousin, called The Sunny Bluegrass Boys. He continued playing music through college and then emigrated to the USA to pursue his love of this music. He has lived in Atlanta, Nashville, Minneapolis and Austin, Texas. San Francisco has been his home since 1986 and he plays regularly in cafes and bars around town. The deep romantic nature of country music, its' tales of trains and cowboys and broken hearts continues to sustain Toshio's imagination and art. His faithful, respectful renditions of heartbreaking country tunes, with substantial nods to legends like Jimmie Rodgers, is something to behold. -Beth Lisick/SF Gate His voice has that perfect old-timey waver, and his yodel could bring tears to your eyes. His faithful, respectful renditions of heartbreaking country tunes is something to behold. -SF Gate A yodeling cowboy from way out east. It's cute as hell. -Squidlist.com MEGAN LYNCH is a dazzling urbanite who found herself appointed by Hedley Lamarr to be the new sheriff of Rock Ridge. Concerned with fitting in, she learned how to add eggs to her coffee and yodel along with the natives. Her pardner Kelly McCubbin plays a mean uke and holds down the basso continuo. ----/ Venue Info /------------------------------------------------------ Wilde Oscar's 1900 Folsom @ 15th St. san francisco 415-621-7145 Wilde Oscar's is in the Mission District on the corner of 15th Street & Folsom Street. ----/ Additional Info /------------------------------------------------- [EMAIL PROTECTED] 415 255-8545 http://crooners.tribe.net/ ----/ The Squid List Admin /--------------------------------------------- The Squid List, a tentacle of Laughing Squid http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/ subscribe, unsubscribe, change your email address or change your subscription options: http://lists.laughingsquid.org/mailman/listinfo/squidlist/ Frequently Asked Questions & Submission Guidelines Squid List FAQ: http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/faq.html The Squid List Online Calendar: http://laughingsquid.org/squidlist/calendar/ The Squid List RSS Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/squidlist ----/ Laughing Squid /-------------------------------------------------- Laughing Squid http://laughingsquid.com underground art and culture from San Francisco and beyond Laughing Squid Web Hosting http://laughingsquid.net friendly, dependable and secure web hosting services for artists, individuals, bloggers, non-profits and small businesses The Squid List is licensed under a Creative Commons License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.5/
