----/ Event Description /-----------------------------------------------

Milly Lee's childern's book "Earthquake!," tells the story of her
mother's escape across the burning, crumbling city during the 1906
Quake and Fire. Earthquakegives readers a fascinating picture of a
city coping with an emergency; it is also a moving tribute to the
hundreds of Chinese Americans who lost their homes, and in some cases
their lives, in that disaster.

Milly Lee reads from "Earthquake." as part of the Chinese Historical
Society of America's commemoration of the Great Quake & Fire. She
also speaks further about her mother's story and about writing
"Earthquake," and reads portions of her new book "Landed" -- about
the immigrant experience at Angel Island.
