Beijing Bicycle is the single greatest movie about a boy losing his
bike since Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Persistence pays off for a
country boy Guei when he lands a coveted job as a bicycle messenger
on the teaming streets of Beijing. The silver mountain bike he now
rides will be his - once he earns 600 yuan. But just as he makes his
final payment, the bicycle is stolen. Brought to you by Santa Cruz
Bike To Work Week. Screening begins at 8ish.

Plagues & Pleasures on the Salton Sea is heartbreaking and beautiful,
a bizarre portrait of perseverance amid environmental apocalypse.
This extraordinary documentary provides a kitsch kaleidoscope view of
what was pitched to '50s America as the new Palm Springs and the
place to buy holiday homes. Now virtually abandoned and with a high
salt content that leaves thousands of dead fish heaped up on the
beach, Salton Sea is nonetheless home to some weird and wonderful
characters who give us a peek at true Americana. Delightfully
entertaining and fascinating, people such as 'Hunky Daddy' - the self-
appointed mayor of Bombay Beach - splash vivid colors across the
desert landscape of holiday's paradise lost. Director Chris Metzler
may join us for a Q&A afterward. Brought to you by the Santa Cruz
International Film Festival. Screening begins at 10ish.

PLUS an introduction to bike culture and bike to work week,

BRING lawn chairs, blankets, pillows, friends, drinks, & food to
share for intermission.

SANTA CRUZ GUERILLA DRIVE-IN is an outdoor movie theatre under the
