Friday, June 16th 7:30pm - 9:00pm Free ----/ Event Description /----------------------------------------------- Friday, June 16th, 7:30 Ecstatic Monkey Reading Series at Modern Times Bookstore presents: Author and Performance Artist Kirk Read With Ecstatic Monkey members Neale Jones and Angela Marino Kirk Read is the author of "How I Learned to Snap" and co-hosts the open mic series Smack Dab. He has curated many other performance series, including Smegma, Lit at the Hive, Booty Bump and Tina's Cafe. He works as an HIV counselor at St. James Infirmary, a free health care clinic for sex workers. He is working toward daily practice of writing, yoga reading and dance. He's working on a novel called "This is the Thing." Angela Marino will be finishing up her master's degree in creative writing at SF State any day now. She is in the midst of completing her thesis, a collection of short stories, In the Way They Were. She has also interned as an editor for the literary magazine Instant City. She is an avid volunteer who likes to work with animal rights organizations and currently volunteers at Give a Dog a Bone where she gets her daily fix of helping homeless doggies. She was recently a finalist for Glimmer Train's Very Short Fiction Award. Neale Jones is currently pursuing his BA in Creative Writing at San Francisco State. His work has appeared three times in Porter Gulch Review . His piece The Stories I'm Not Supposed To Tell earned that magazine's award for best fiction of 2004.
