The film is being co-directed by the author Lynn Breedlove and Shani Heckman. The night will include spoken word artists, featuring live performances by Thea Hillman, Cindy Emch, Charlie Anders, Roxy Monoxide, Daphne Gottlieb, Lauren Wheeler and Meliza Bañales. "Godspeed" ( www.godspeedfilm.com): Set in the landscape of San Francisco in the 1990's, Godspeed is based upon Lynn Breedlove's autobiographical novel (NY, 2001,St. Martin's Press), which explores working class queer and trans identity issues around addiction, empowerment and the general struggle for survival. The protagonist, Jim, is a poor, white, gay, transgender, bike messenger battling addiction, homophobia, and classism. Godspeed tells the passionate story of his journey from self-destruction to self-acceptance and love supported by strong relationships across racial and class lines. Artist Bios: Thea Hillman According to a special report by the Traditional Values Coalition entitled "Homosexual Urban Myth," Thea Hillman is a radical who "conducts erotic readings for homosexual groups" as part of the "homosexual revolution." According to herself, that's pretty much correct, but she would add that she is also the author of the critically acclaimed book Depending on the Light. Emch Like a Russ Meyer sex kitten with a punk rock edge, emchy is a poet, performer, curator, and all around community building hell raiser. She has published five chapbooks, writes for the Hillgirlz.com blog, a variety of film and pop culture mags and has been published in Lodestar Quarterly. She has also featured at K'vetsch, Varnish and other neato places and is very proud to have founded the Queer Open Mic which makes its home at the Three Dollar Bill Cafe. For more information check out www.geocities.com/indigo_cin Meliza Bañales Meliza Bañales is the author of Say It With Your Whole Mouth (Poetry Center Book Award Nominee, 2004) and the forthcoming 51 Poems About Nothing At All. She was the 2002 Oakland Grand Slam Poetry Champion and was the first Latina to win a poetry slam championship on the west coast. She was also the winner of the 2002 People Before Profits Poetry Prize. Her work has been featured in Lodestar Quarterly, Without A Net: The Female Experience of Growing-Up Working Class edited by Michelle Tea and Revolutionary Voices edited by Ami Sonny (both LAMDA Nominees) and has also written for Girlfriends and On Our Backs magazines highlighting women of color. She will appear in the forthcoming anthology Baby, Remember My Name: New Queer Girl Writing edited by Michelle Tea and her film "Do the Math" with award- winning director/writer Mary Guzman was the winner of a 2006 Frameline Completion Grant and will premiere in this year's Frameline festival. Roxy Arania Monoxide Roxy Arania Monoxide has headlined and been banned from various open mics across the Bay Area, is currently working on her second book as she awaits further rejection letters for her first book, and is the lead songstress for the horror synthpunk band The Floating Corpses. Daphne Gottlieb San Francisco-based Performance Poet Daphne Gottlieb stitches together the ivory tower and the gutter just using her tongue. She is the editor of Homewrecker: An Adultery Reader (Soft Skull Press, 2005), as well as the author of Final Girl (Soft Skull Press, 2003), Why Things Burn (Soft Skull Press, 2001) and Pelt (Odd Girls Press, 1999). Final Girl was the winner of the Audre Lorde Award in Poetry for 2003 from Publishing Triangle. Additionally, Final Girl was named one of the The Village Voice's Favorite Books of 2003, and received rave reviews from Publisher's Weekly , The San Francisco Chronicle and The Village Voice. Why Things Burn was the winner of a 2001 Firecracker Alternative Book Award (Special Recognition - Spoken Word) and was also a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for 2001. Lauren Wheeler Lauren Wheeler is a recovering slam poet; she competed at the National Poetry Slam in 1998 as a member of the renegade Team SF- Mission District and in 1999 as member and coach of Team Ithaca, NY. She has also featured at Cornell University, where she studied English Literature, in Los Angeles, Miami, and throughout the Bay Area. Lauren was the curator and host of two poetry series in Ithaca, Tongue & Groove at Stella's Wine and Whiskey Bar and Re-Verse at the Oak Café, and was a core organizer of the ForWord Girls poetry and spoken word festival in San Francisco. Her work has appeared in Lodestar Quarterly and Other Magazine , and she has self-published two chapbooks, anti-matter and mygration. Charlie Anders Charlie Anders wrote a novel, Choir Boy, and co-edited the forthcoming anthology She's Such a Geek. She publisher of Other, the magazine of pop culture and politics for the new outcasts. Her writing has appeared in ZYZZVYZ, Salon.com, the Wall Street Journal, Publisher's Weekly, the SF Bay Guardian, the New York Press, Tikkum, Punk Planet, Genre and many more. Charlie organizes the long-running series Writers With Drinks, which won "Best Literary Night" the last two years in a row in the Bay Guardian's readers' poll and is also the author of The Lazy Crossdress (Greenery Press, 2002).
