----/ Event Description /-----------------------------------------------

The World Affairs Council of Northern California's Summer Social:
Guest Speaker Terry Vogt to speak on "Environmental Protection in
Latin America and the US through Conservation Finance"

The East Bay Chapter of the World Affairs Council of Northern
California (the largest international affairs organization on the
West Coast) is hosting its Annual Summer Social in beautiful
Danville, just east of Oakland. Sip delicious South American wines,
sample tasty hors d'oeuvres and enjoy a program that we promise will
be chock full of new information about an emerging trend in
environmental conservation.

Our featured speaker, Terry Vogt, Program Director of the Gordon and
Betty Moore Foundation, will discuss "Environmental Protection in
Latin America and the US through Conservation Finance". Conservation
Finance is a new discipline integrating biology, business, economics,
engineering, law and a good dose of real world practicality into the
design of conservation investments. Terry Vogt will reflect on the
current state of Conservation Finance in the US and Latin America.

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, founded 5 years ago in San
Francisco by the co-founder of Intel and his wife, is dedicated to
creating positive outcomes for future generations through support of
the environment and science. Terry, a Trustee of the World Affairs
Council of Northern California, came to the Foundation after a career
in investment banking and international private equity investing,
with extensive experience in Latin America. He is a graduate of
Harvard University and lives in San Francisco. In 1996 he was awarded
the Order of Rio Branco by then President Fernando Henrique Cardoso
of Brazil.
