First check to make sure the imap server is running. If you are
directly on the server, do:
telnet localhost 143
If you get connection refused then, you need to restart your imap
server. Depending on which one you installed, depends on the command
you have to use. You'll need to check your imap documentation for
that one.
What I should point out is that SM requires an IMAP server, not a
POP3 server to do all its work. SquirrelMail does however have a
plugin that allows retrieval from a POP3 server.
