if you have compiled PHP with gettext-support it shouldn't be a problem of PHP. Try the following thing on your system: 1. "export LC_ALL=de_DE" to set the language to german 2. call gettext program from command line 3. If the displayed error message is not shown in german language it is a problem with the basic gettext program.
