Ah, I had hacked a previous version of ldapquery to make it support
UTF-8. It would convert LDAP's UTF-8 to the charset of the current
locale nicely (GNU recode PHP module needed). It also supported
multi-language attributes, i.e. I have:
cn = Alexandros Vellis
cn;lang-el = <My name in Greek (UTF-8)>
and when (and only when) I use greek locale, it will choose the greek
name from LDAP.
Unfortunately, I didn't have time to make a proper patch and finish it
off - I had contacted the author but he didn't hear from me again.!
I will resync now to the latest ldapquery and finish off the patch, so
as to make it public... I will let you know!
