  No, check /home/$USER/Maildir and make sure it exists.  There is a
  program with courier that makes them, called maildirmake :)  Try:

    # maildirmake /home/$USER/Maildir

  Of course replace $USER with the username. Then check permissions
  and ownership of the file. Should be owned by the $USER and
  read/write only by the user (no group or world readable).
