I am submitting to a list or to the trackers. What should i mention? 5. Hey, I've solved the problem. Should I share my knowledge? 6. A list of DON'Ts 7. A list of DOs 8. I want to change my subscription, or unsubscribe. How do i do that? 1. I have a question! You are welcome. However _*please*_ check at the following places whether your question has been asked and answered before. A) Have a look at the FAQ. http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/UserFAQ B) Search the list archives. http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=squirrelmail-users 2. It does not work! Is my problem known and solved? Problems are seldom unique. For most problems you may have, others have had them before, and solved them. When you want to solve that very same problem, you may want to do some of these things: A) Upgrade your installation to the latest release. That is, download the newest from http://www.squirrelmail.org/download.php and go with it B) Have a look at the FAQ. Lots of recipes to solve problems are at http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/UserFAQ C) Search the list archives. Similar questions as yours may have been asked, and *answered* before. Browse the archives: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=squirrelmail-users D) Look into the trackers. Maybe somebody before your submitted exaclty your problem Have a look at it (specially the bugs section): http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=311 E) Check whether the problem persists when you use another IMAP client That is, whether Netscape Messenger/Outlook Express/etc. also have the same problem. If they do have the same problem, your problem is not a SquirrelMail problem. F) Try to reach the IMAP server manually from your web server. That is, from the command line prompt on the server where your SquirrelMail installation lives, do a "telnet imapserver 143", where imapserver is the name of your IMAP server. When you cannot connect, it is not a SquirrelMail problem, but probably a firewall/DNS/IMAP setup problem. 3. It does not work, and my problem is not known or solved! Where to go? Hey, that is one of those things that this list is for. However, to keep track of all, and prevent the list from overflowing, please keep to these guidelines. A) Always submit bugs to the trackers (and check wheter the bug is already in there) http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=311 B) Questions are welcome on the mailinglist However, send them to the _*RIGHT*_ mailinglist. For a complete overview of all lists, see: http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/MailingLists In short, an incomplete overview: * general questions/remarks/etc: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * anything that has to do with plugins: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * anything so technical only heavenly creatures can solve or to join discussion about how to fix the bugs: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] For all these lists you have to be subscribed to be able to post to them. See the complete overview mentioned. 4. I am submitting to a list or to the trackers. What should i mention? Always try to mention the following: A) Browser type (Netscape/IE/Opera/etc) and version B) SquirrelMail version C) PHP version D) IMAP server type (UW/Courier/Cyrus/Exchange/etc) and version E) Webserver type (Apache/IIS/etc) and version F) Installed plugins G) An *exact* descrtiption of your problem H) If possible, how to reproduce the problem I) The bug tracker number if it concerns a bug which is on the trackers (and all bug should be on the trackers) 5. Hey, I've solved the problem. Should I share my knowledge? Yes of course you should :-) It will others help solve their problems faster. In general do this: A) Make a resume of the problem and the solution (let question 4 inspire you ;-)) B) Post it to the list mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] C) Add it to the FAQ http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/UserFAQ Yes, you can add things, however be sure to add it at the right places D) Drop a note the developers in case you think they may want to know That is, to either: * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 6. A list of DON'Ts What you should NOT do on this list (incomplete) includes the following: A) Submit a question without knowing whether it is mentioned in the FAQ B) Reply to a message when you want to ask a question that is not related to that message C) Send a message more than once to the list D) Resend a message repeatedly if you are not satisfied with having no answers yet E) Reply to the sender only (of course unless when explicitly asked for) F) Use HTML in your mail G) Attach binary files H) Ask questions about PHP, your IMAP server, how to set up Linux, etc. 7.
