  There was a session bug with 1.2.10, which was fixed shortly
  afterwards. As for why your change in the IMAP authentication having
  the affect it did on it, I doubt it did. It was probably your
  upgrade of PHP that caused the problem. If you grab a copy of the
  1.2.11[cvs] copy, you can reset the session.auto_start back to 0.
  We're currently working on the 1.4 stable release which also has the
  same issue fixed.
