I just fixed this on my system.  Drove me nuts! ;)  I don't think the info
was easy to find, the squirrelmail site is a bit different to navigate if
you are not familiar with "wikis".  Here's the link:

As mentioned below, edit the php.ini file, restart apache, you will be
happy.
