OK. Procmail Filter (don't know if this is ftpd or SM) will time out doing an load of the existing filter file resulting in an erasure of all filters. My solution is to call to small perl programs to copy the files (setuid root) instead of the ftp (on the same box). Same plugin used ftp_close when debian's version of php4 uses ftp_quit. Thought there were more, something involving leaving of a length which in the debian version is NOT optional. Sorry, should have brought it up at the time. William R.
