When attempting to send and email message using Squirrelmail-1.2.10 on a Redhat 7.2 server (apache 1.3.20 and PHP-4.0.6, both redhat stock packages). I get the compose screen back reprinted in the browser but with a message at the top that says: ERROR (in red) and below that:
Error connecting to SMTP server. 0: I have not been able to figure out how to fix this. A look at the /var/log/maillog file on the SMTP server doesn't even show a connection attempt. I have Evolution and phpgroupware working fine sending mail against this same SMTP server from the same web/app server, however Squirrelmail doesn't work. By chance, I looked at the php.conf file on the server to make sure uploads are enabled, and they are, even though this is a different symptom than that issue shows. Please help!
