Hmm, well my first reaction is that I think SM's requirement is php
4.0.6, but don't quote me on that.  Is there a reason why you cannot
upgrade?

Ah yes, I see it there... it must have been removed in 1.4 due to people
like yourself having said problems.  Thanks for pointing this out -- I
will readjust my approach and first test if there is anything useful
contained therein before making that assignment.
