I might be wrong, but this sounds like a sendmail config issue. Do this, see what you get. /usr/lib/sendmail -d0.4 xxx < /dev/null This should show you the canonical name and other system identity information which might give you a clue as to what's wrong, then you can update your sendmail.cf accordingly.
