SquirrelMail 1.2.11
PHP4 4.2.3

For the past few weeks I've been unable to track down why sending mail
through SquirelMail (1.2.11) is really slow. When a message is composed
and one clicks send there is a good 30 seconds (sometimes more, I counted)
before the message gets sent.

This happens with small messages and messages with attachments. I'm at my
wits end trying to figure this out. I originally thought it was SSL as
the httpd proceses are in a sleep state when I'm trying to to send the
message.

We made this new mail server as the old one was doing double duty (mail &
high volume ftp) and was running Debain (woody) I think and these problems
were not noticed there. I'm using the exact same versions of the software
that was on the old machine.

I'm also have problems with sending leading to 'page cannot be found' or
'would you like to view the non-secure items' but the mail delivery delay
is my first concern.

Any information or pointers to areas I should look at will be greatly
appriciated.
