doesn't sound like an SM problem.  if you do have the vlogin plugin
installed, you should set $debug = 1 in the config file to see what the
difference in user name is

have you read the plugin's README?  It's long, but should answer most
questions.  also, refer to the sample config file it has.  if you have
specific questions, please feel free to ask them.
