I'm quite certain that this is an issue with PHP and/or SM not being able to handle some character or string of characters somewhere in the headers of the malformed message. I've seen this happen a few times, but have not had the time to put a finger on the actual problem or a real solution.
What I typically do, is use another IMAP client to delete the first message that's not displayed. In your case, that's the first message in your INBOX. If nothing else, you can use telnet and use POP3 to RETR and DELE the message. BTW, in every case I've seen this (4 times now), SqWebMail performs where SquirrelMail chokes. Outlook also behaved fine. Same message, same IMAP server, no problem.
