CVS snapshots are how you can get ahold of the latest and greatest
SquirrelMail code. If you are running a recent copy of SM (looks like
you are) and are not experiencing any problems, then you don't really
need to worry about this (just upgrade when a new release is made).
However, if you read that there are some fixes in CVS for bugs you are
experiencing, you may want to upgrade. You'll not be able to rpm CVS
snapshots, so instead you can follow the instructions to get an
anonymous copy of the CVS code in a directory parallel to your rpm'd
installation (or just grap a snapshot tarball from the download page -
they are built nightly by grabbing the contents of the anonymous CVS for
SM). You can just copy over your config/config.php file as well as all
your plugins and you should be able to point your webmail link to that
directory once it is running as expected.

Subject: [SM-USERS] Question and Understanding of CVS Snapshots

I'm new to using and administrating SquirrelMail at our university and
have a few questions that I hope some of you can answer for me.

First off I'm running Red Hat Advanced Sever 2.1 and SquirrelMail 1.4.1.

I have been seeing a lot of talk recently regarding CVS snapshots, and I
am not understanding what these are for and if I need to apply them to
my system.
if run rpm -q cvs on my system I get the following returned:
cvs-1.11.1p1-8.7

Is this the correct version of CVS I should be using/running?     Can
some one please explain to me how I go about installing CVS (If I need
to do it), and the procedures on how to install these snapshots?

I've looked on the SquirrelMail Website and found some information about
this, but I am pretty confused since I'm new to this product (which is
fantastic by the way).

Thanks for any input you can share with me.

Brian
