SquirrelMail is just another mailclient, like Outlook Express, only
installed on a webserver instead of on your local machine.
What you would need to do is to configure your Outlook Express and
your IMAP-server. In case you're not running your own IMAP-server
(which I guess you aren't?) you should contact the people
administrating your IMAP-server.
