The long awaited squirrelmail_1.4.2-1_all.deb package has been uploaded to the Debian servers and should appear at:
http://ftp.debian.org/pool/main/s/squirrelmail/squirrelmail_1.4.2-1_all.deb
within the next few hours, and filter from there out to the various mirrors within a day or two.
There have been plenty of changes and somewhat more testing than the last, somewhat broken, 1.4.0 package received (although it is after 2am here in Sydney so I reserve the right to miss something - like updating Stardards-Version from 3.5.2 for example). In particular I've paid more attention to the handling of themes and previously broken theme support now works again. Furthermore, themes without paths will be updated in config.php and will work as expected in user pref files. Stripping paths seemed like a good idea at the time (back when packaging 1.2.x) but has proven to cause more problems than it fixed. The diff file may be of interest in case any of these mods may be applicable upstream:

The package has also resolved some policy violations (like having the conf.pl executable in /etc, without a man page). It's now /usr/sbin/squirrelmail-configure and it's linked into /etc/squirrelmail as conf.pl so to avoid /etc bloat and user confusion. Its dependencies are more forgiving, esp. in that spell package(s) are no longer required, rather just recommended.
There are only 4 remaining bugs in the Debian BTS which have all been replicated in the SF BTS. Most affect only non standard setups, but they should probably be fixed nonetheless:

I trust this package will be of acceptable quality - 1.4.0 was intended as an interim unstable release with iterative development. This never happened due to time constraints and given the size of the package and increasing deployment of unstable into production environments it should probably never have seen the light of day.
