It means that you can unsubscribe from a folder, so that you will not
see it in your list of folders.
Think of IMAP folders in two levels:
1) Folders that are available. These can be seen with a LIST command.
2) Folders that you are subscribed to. These can be seen with an LSUB
command.
You can elect to unsubscribe from a folder that you have "left aside"
and don't want it to clutter your space, since you do not use it anymore
(but don't want to delete it). Or you can even subscribe to some other
user's mailbox, so that you can see its contents, or subscribe to a
shared folder that is accessible to a lot of users, depending on the
access control flags that have been set by that particular folder's
administrator.
