I had the same problem. Under Options - Folder Preferences, I changed Enable Unread Message Notification: to Only Inbox. Less utility, but it sped up the loading and refreshing of the left pane to a usable speed. =Rob PS Note that I keep a pretty small number of messages in my inbox (<25).
