I've been digging through FAQ, archives and google and haven't really
found a solid answer to this question and was hoping someone could give me
a a bit of advice.

Here was the original question:

Subject: Auto removing old emails in trash folder

Rather then manually purge my trash folder, I'd like to have some
tool, possibly in a cron job, that would automatically remove any
messages in my trash folder that are 30 days or more old.

Is there a way to automatically remove messages in my trash folder
that are 30 days or more old ?

I am still using 1.2.10.

The answers that followed were to use the Empty Trash plugin from the SM
site, but, as Chris pointed out, that plugin doesn't fit the requirements.
I am also looking to prune the trash folder not clear it as the Empty
Trash plugin appears to do.

The last post I found (from Chris Hilts) also recommended editing the code
for Auto-Prune Sent to change occurrences of $sent_folder to
$trash_folder. From my testing of Auto-Prunt Sent and from looking at
what I understood the of the PHP that plugin only appears to move messages
from the sent folder to the trash folder (where they just build up in a
different location).

I'm wondering if I am just missing something since this seems like it
would be a rather useful plugin (though this is obviously just the
perspective of someone using SM in our particular ISP environment), but a
true trash _pruning_ plugin doesn't appear to exist..

Has anyone else solved this problem in their own way that they could offer
some insight into?

Are other people just pruning trash folders through their IMAP servers?

We are running SM 1.4.2 on FreeBSD with MySQL as the back end for user
prefs and UW-IMAP accessing mailfiles, though we will be migrating to
maildir format with either Courier or Cyrus in the next few months.

Thanks for your time.
