Options -> Index Order.  When you upgraded to 1.4.2, did you throw away
your user's preference files?  You should have migrated them into your new
1.4.2's data directory.

It only displays local (attached) images.  Unsafe images are not shown. 
You can turn this off with Options -> Display Preferences -> Show HTML
Version By Default = Off and Display Attached Images = off.  I'd say this
is another symptom of not migrating your user preferences.
