Hello Everybody,

I am running SM 1.2.10, Apache 1.3.19-5, courier IMAP 1.5.3 under RedHat
8.0. The mail server is QMAIL 1.03. The server hardware is a XEON based DELL
machine with 512MB RAM. It is having around 600 mailboxes and almost 50% of
the users are accessing their mailboxes using SM. This server works for mail
only.

I am facing a problem that after 4-5 days, the web interface stops
responding. The browser just waits and waits without any page being loaded.
While examining the server I find that the http service is not responding.
There are huge numbers of httpd processes (I have seen 511 processes once)
created as revealed by "ps" and "service https status". If we kill all the
httpd processes and start it again, then things become normal. The http logs
don't show any errors. On regular monitoring I find that

1) There are accumulations of processes in http. I had killed all the
processes on 17th January and to day I find that there are 21 httpd
processes running and some of them have started working since 18th January
(as reported by "ps -ef")!
2) The "top" command reports that most of the time the http process is
consuming over 90% of CPU time!

Another observation, don't know if it helps. The httpd log shows that the
following files are not present
Default.ida
_vti_bin
_vti_inf.html
favicon.ico

I am not sure if this is something to do with APACHE or SM or IMAP. May I
get some help please? I am a pretty novice in this subject.

With regards,

Goutam
