Me too! I was disappointed about the slow SM on my Test-System:
SuSE 8.1, 2 GHz, 512 MB, only one (my own) connection.

I remembered the advice to use an imap-proxy. After downloading
and compiling "IMAP Proxy" from "www.imapproxy.org" I noticed
much better performance.
