What sort of issues are you running into? I've found lots of problems with the plugin under 1.4.2 (check the archives over the past couple of weeks), but none of the developers seem to be experiencing them. Still, I've had to put my college's migration to 1.4.2 from 1.2.x off until it's either fixed or I find a way of writing my own. By "obsolete," what they mean is that the plugin has been integrated into the v1.5.0 core, so it's no longer a separate piece of code.
