Here's my contriburiton to the discussion. It's not intended as a flame.

The announcement on the SquirrelMail homepage is:

SM-DEVEL: SquirrelMail 1.5.0 released
Feb 01, 2004 by Erin Schnabel
  The Development Team has released version 1.5.0. Included in this
release is the integration of the DMN plugin, some interface tweaks, and
many bugfixes. Enjoy.

I guess some people interpret SM-DEVEL as SquirrelMail Development Team
and not SquirrelMail Development Version.

You can never be clear enough for everyone to understand what you're meaning.
