As you surmised, the value stored in the cookie is getting truncated.  It
seems to me that the login cookies shouldn't ever be big enough to have
this happen, although max cookie sizes aren't that big, either.  There is
no configuration you can do on the SM side of things, cookie sizing is a
standard that cannot be changed.  You could fish around in your browser,
but I'm afraid the only solution might be to disable login_auto or shorten
your usernames/URLs.
