I've also used both. Sqwebmail is extremely fast since it's directly accessing the Maildir rather than using a common protocol like IMAP. But that's about it's only advantage in my book. Squirrelmail is much more aesthetic and well laid out. The HTML design in Sqwebmail leaves a lot to be desired. With Squirrelmail's plugin capability you've got tons of quaility plugins to meet your exact needs for your clients or you can write your own with relative ease. SQWebmail has no such hooks so if you wanted to add something you'd have to hack it in there yourself. Squirrelmail is also multiplatform, should you need to move to another OS or IMAP Server in the future, you can keep Squirrelmail in place and your users will hardly notice a difference. As for Squirrelmail's speed, it can be quite fast when using a good IMAP Server like Courier or Cyrus and on modern hardware the difference in speed between the two is neglible. I'd recommend Squirrelmail for your users. -- Jay Lee Network / Systems Administrator Information Technology Dept.
