Jonathan is right, simply run cvs on the 1.4.x ( stable ) branch and copy the src/compose.php from the cvs data to your src/ ( thus overwriting the offending file ).

I said the CVS snapshot... downloading the release file repeatedly
won't help...

the 1.4 stable section, where you can download the snapshot.
