Obviously you missed this in the documentation.  There are spammers who
are able to validate their email lists and determine when an email is
'read' by having graphics NOT attached to the email, but residing on their
servers.  Because of this SM does not display these externally hosted
graphics and replaces them with the graphical message you see.  There is a
plugin you can get to allow the reader of the email to display the
graphics on a case by case basis I believe.
