I log in to my mail and it says I have almost 8,000 emails but it times out before displaying any of them. I can look at my send box - empty, or my trash box - also empty but I can't see any of the emails in my inbox. A few months ago I didn't even know I had an email account and sort of stumbled into it. When I checked it then there were thousands and began deleting them one page at a time.
My question is this - how do I get that mailbox EMPTY so I can use it and is there any way of seeing any of the messages before deleting them?
I think I have version 1.2.5
I'm running MS Win XP Home Edition 2002 SP1
Sounds like you're an end user, and SquirrelMail isn't running on the WinXP machine, right? Along with the other suggestions you've gotten, you can ask the server administrator to install the empty_folders plugin (and ask her to upgrade the SM installation if it is in fact v1.2.5), which allows you to put "empty" links next to any of the folders listed on the left. You'd only want to use that if you can stand to delete all that email, which is probably spam, so it's probably OK. You might still get timeouts from that link, but after a few click/timeout cycles, you might be able to empty out the mailbox.
