If answer was posted at the end of message, why have you used top posting?

Check what imap server you are using? There are several places that store incoming 
mail. Some imap servers read /var/spool/mail/username, some read ~username/Maildir, 
some read completelly different place.

It is possible that there is some misconfiguration in your server and imap server 
looks for incoming mail in wrong place.

Please check if you can send and recieve email. Read docs about your email server. We 
can't help you, if you don't provide more information about your setup. Main cause of 
the problem is combination of MTA and IMAP servers that you are using. Maybe you have 
Sendmail+Courier-IMAP? or you have mbox file in your home directory and imap server 
does not check /var/spool/mail/.

Other problem - incorrect MTA setup or broken DNS records.
