Very interesting. Can SM be configured to interface with Excel in this way as well? (i.e. open excel and send to recipient direct from excel instead of attaching to a mail?)

That's because the message you gave as an example doesn't contain an
attachment. The excel file that is there IS the email. Looks like the
author used the option to send the excel file to a mail recipient.
The client (Outlook) then constructs the mail as an excel object. This
works just fine and dandy for Outlook clients because they can embed
the Excel object in the window, but is a little more difficult for
SquirrelMail to handle. Simply put, the user is making the email the
excel file, so there is no attachments.
