Hi Everybody,
This is my 1st e-mail to this list but, it brings a curious problem that is
giving me some problems so, I ask to anybody who has any background on this
issue.. give me a hand on this.
I saw this two e-mails on the list and decided to bring them here because, my
problem is kind of similar.
I have this mailserver here at work, it runs on a box with:
FreeBSD 4.8
PHP 4.3.4
qmail-1.03
courier-imap-2.2.0 [installed]
imap-2002e [installed]
Apache 1.3.29
vpopmail-5.2.1
gettext-0.13.1
openssl-0.9.7d
tcp_wrappers_7.6
zlib-1.2.1
daemontools-0.76
- among other softwares (perl modules and other stuff) -
This mailserver is running since March and just yesterday one of my users
started to see this message "Notice: (null)(): [ALERT] Fatal error: TOO MANY
CONSECUTIVE PROTOCOL VIOLATIONS: in Unknown on line 0" right below its sumary
view in the webmail. His account is near 30MB and he has some folders to
organize his e-mails.
If Bron Gondwana or Jeffrey Wheat or anybody who had an experience with this
problem reads this e-mail please contact me, I need help on this.

The bad things with that message:
a) the "Please contact your system administrator and report the
following error" bit is in the generic IMAP reading code - it
occurs when the IMAP server has said "BYE" at an unexpected
place, hence closing the IMAP connection.
b) "TOO MANY CONSECUTIVE PROTOCOL VIOLATIONS" is an IMAP server error,
and you haven"t told use what IMAP server you"re using.
To debug this problem, we"re going to have to at least know what IMAP
server it is, and then be able to re-create the problem.
Can you please give at least the following information:
* Operating system (including version)
* PHP version
* Apache version
* IMAP server (including version)
* any other specific configuration information that makes your
system different from the default installs of the above.
Thanks,
Bron.
P.S. Google search for ""TOO MANY CONSECUTIVE PROTOCOL VIOLATIONS""
(with the quotes) gives a couple of very interesting pages on why it
occurs (to deal with Outlook - aren"t all our bugs from workarounds
to deal with Outlook - *sigh*). It suggests that Courier is your
mail server. I"ve never had this problem, but probably because my
mail server doesn"t reject anything much.

TOO MANY CONSECUTIVE PROTOCOL VIOLATIONS
2002-03-25 12:24
This is my second posting regarding this and have yet to see any replies, so I
am
going to guess it didn"t make it through the first time...
I am seeing this error after upgrading to 1.2.5
> "Please contact your system administrator and report the following
> error: Fatal error: TOO MANY CONSECUTIVE PROTOCOL VIOLATIONS: 0"
This is with the following:
IMAP: Courier-IMAP 1.3.12
OS: FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE
Apache: 1.3.23
PHP: 4.1.2
In our case however, the email is actually sent. Any clues to this problem
gladly accepted.
Regards,
Jeff

Thank you all,
Ismael Filho.
